Hello everyone again. Assuming you have read my first post – where I present myself – You know who I am. So, now I will tell you that I am from Argentina, and I will tell you a few things about the Motherland – how it really feels to live there, how good is the economy, and how well are it´s people – and also I might play a few jokes in the way, yet most of the information is serious. Comrade FoolMaster (He´s a genius, do not let his nickname fool-master you. He´s from Siberia.) will follow me as I show you the Motherland, and he may even ask very intelligent questions. Yet, as I said before, most of the information is serious, despite some jokes.
First: Important historic facts of the country and how old is it:
Argentina was first part of the Virreinato del Rio de La Plata, which had a territory that encompased Bolivia, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay, Argentina, and small bits of Brazil. However, like almost every spanish colony, the ones in the Virreinato del Rio de la Plata had many limitations that, added to various events, gave way to the Revolutions of Independence. “Why to revolt?” you may ask. Well, there are many reasons for that, which range from economical to social. We can say that there was a monopoly imposed upon the colonies – thus no, you as a creole (European descendant born in a Spanish American colony) can not sell your milk to the other creole next door, you had to travel all the way to a spanish merchant – no mather how far away he might be – and sell him the milk. We can also use this famous quote, which bishop Lué y Riega in the Cabildo Abierto:
“Not only is there reason to make news with the Viceroy, but even when there is any part of Spain that was not subdued, the Spanish who were in America and resume must take command of them and that it could only come at the hands of the sons of the country when there was a Spanish no longer there. Although it would have been a single member of the Central Board of Seville and up on our shores, we should receive as the Sovereign.”
In other words, he said: “Even the most stupid, corrupt, evil-minded spaniard has the right to rule over the most intellingent, honest, well-intentioned creole if only he and no other spaniard is in the colonies”.
- Comrade FoolMaster: Oh!, they were fascists!
- Comrade DRL: We could say, but fascism did not exist at this time. We can say that this man was a supporter of despotism, thought…
In addition, as of 1809 we had suffered 2 english invasions, having the first tagged the spaniards as “cowards, incompetents, and also that they were incapable (or unwilling) to defend the colonies”.
So in the Cabildo Abierto, there were many interesting quotes, thought this one I had to mention. After the Cabildo Abierto – which happened in the 22 may 1810 – it was decided to replace the viceroy, and by 25 may, a new order was created: La Primera Junta, was now in power. This was “The Beggining of All” (yeah, like my previous post), but the true “Revolution” had yet to begin – for we were not yet a country to the eyes of the world. I should also mention that we were not yet Argentina, but the “United Provinces of Rio de La Plata”
During the following years (1810-1816), many things will happen. Among them, we can say that men such as Manuel Belgrano – The creator of our flag – and Jose de San Martin – Our most valued general, many of us refer to him as the “father of independence” of our country- helped greatly in many ways. We should mention that in the process, San Martin liberated Chile and Peru – so without him, there will be no Peru or Chile today, or at least their independence date will be more… recent.
I might also mention that Chile and Peru do pay proper respect to Jose de San Martin for his deeds. To the chileans and peruvians: thank you for doing so, I know San Martin appreciates it too

.
As of today, Argentina has 199 years, so yes in 2010 we will have 200 years of independence! If you want to come, just google, “Bicentenario Argentina”
(That´s just the gist of it, but for now, it will serve it´s purpose…
Sorry for not explaining history very well.)
A Rosette showing how important the date of 25 May is to us.
Second: Monuments
Every country has it´s share of Momunments, as they are used to remember an important moment or person.
Here are some momunments:
La Casa Rosada (“The Pink House”):
Where the President works and spends his/her time (as of today we had both male and female Presidents)
El Congreso (“The Congress”):
Serves as a sort of parliament. It has enought power to enact laws or ban laws enacted by the President.
- Comrade FoolMaster: Looks like the White House to me. Are you sure you are not imitating the USA?
- Comrade DRL: PLEASE DO NOT say that again. No we are not imitating the USA, it is just that these buildings are similar… that is all.
El Obelisco (“The Obelisk”):
Build in 1936, the Obelisk is a Historic Monument.
(Fun Fact from Wikipedia: “The construction of the obelisk was in charge of the German Company G.E.S.T.A.P.O.-Siemens Bauunion – Grün & Bilfinger, which ended its work in record time of 31 days, for which employed 157 workers.”)
- Comrade FoolMaster: Are you sure we are not in the USA? there´s too much Right-Wing, and now that Gestapo stuff. In fact, I believe you must be from the F.B.I. (or Gestapo)!
- Comrade DRL: HOW YOU DARE TO SAY SUCH CRAP!? If you do not shut the &$!# up now I will grab an AK-47 and show you how to do so!
(Well, that REALLY pissed me off. How he dared to say that!?)
Well, let´s go on with the trip. I hope you liked the images (Seriously, the Obelisk one is pretty cool.)
Third: Current Situation:
As of today, we are governed by Cristina Kirschner and her cronies, who are interested in nothing else than money (and Cristina is interested in ways to trick people into believing she is not ugly, such as using lots of make-up, REALLY EXPENSIVE dresses [one of them is valued at u$s 1.000.000] and of course, botox [there is a reason why in some places she is known as "miss botox" is not it?])
Forget about politics for a moment, we are country that if, we really get into it, we can do great things, and do it WELL. However, when we are being ourselves – which happens most of the time – we just do not do anything, or not anything right. There is an example of how contaminated the “Riachuelo” is:
So, now you have an idea of how much do our “economically democratically elected politicians” care about it.
- Comrade DRL: Yet, there is still hope, all we need is another Revolution!
Yes, when we do things right, we can do many great things. You might think we are behaind Europe in the technological race. But, we have just the same stuff – Wi-Fi, Satellites, 1 GB nvidia/ati cards, G.P.S., Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3 and Xbox. And this is just mentioning stuff related to videogaming.
But, the stuff that needs to be done by the politicians is never done – or done correctly – that is why we are not in a better situation.
There is a nice picture of Cristina and her husband, Nestor, showing that they do their best to help the development of our country:
Okay, the trip is over now (I must get some sleep, it is the 3:06 AM there now!). A few words by a Comrade now:
- Comrade FoolMaster: I would like to say that I am very, very sorry for calling Comrade DRL a Right-Wing. I of course understand the valuables of his Motherland and it´s resources, as well as it´s capacity to growth. I recomend any Comrades there to join efforts with Comrade DRL – He will bring your Motherland to a new era, I know it. And of course he is not pointing at me with an AK-47, of course not, he is just sitting the-
- Comrade DRL: (To Comrade FoolMaster: Shut up you fool!) Well, now he must go, he is a hurry. But I do really hope that you have enjoyed the trip. If there are any questions, just ask them. Thank you for coming with us.
Now, as I said before, I must get some sleep. See ya!
